Soap Making Lessons: Goatsmilk, Oatmeal & Honey – What Went Wrong?

🧼 Soap Making Lessons: Goatsmilk, Oatmeal & Honey – What Went Wrong?
While making my Goatsmilk, Oatmeal and Honey soap, something strange happened. Not once, but twice!

The batch separated—first when I used the cold process method, and again when I tried the hot process method.
So I asked my lovely community, and here’s what we think might have caused it:
The sodium hydroxide (lye) might be old. It had gone really hard and wouldn’t melt properly. The temperature of the lye water and oils might have been too low when I mixed them.

🛠️ What I Did to Fix It
To stop this from happening again, I’ve learned a few things:

Make sure the temperatures are similar when mixing the lye and oils.
If your sodium hydroxide is old, it’s best to buy a fresh batch.

You can use the old lye to unblock drains or dispose of it safely with help from a professional.

🧴 Tried Again with Sandalwood Soap
I didn’t give up! I made another soap using sandalwood.

It came out looking normal, but in the photo, you can see it’s a bit oily.
I mixed it for longer than usual, but the oiliness stayed.

I’m still learning, and I’d love to hear what you think—have you had this happen before?
